The Los Angeles Times has reported that California-based doctors who have been trained by the American Academy for Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M) were roughly ten times more likely to have been disciplined by the state medical board, stating:
A review by The Times of the 50 California doctors who are academy members lends some credence to that criticism. As of late April, 12 of the 50 doctors listed in the A4M’s print and Internet directories have been disciplined at least once by the state medical board, according to board records.
…Those 12 doctors represent nearly 25% of the anti-aging doctors in California listed by the academy. By contrast, only 2% to 3% of U.S. doctors have been disciplined by state medical boards…
…A4M practitioners have been disciplined on grounds ranging from practicing under a false name to drug addiction and botched surgeries; from insurance fraud to misdiagnosis, and other acts of gross negligence and incompetence….
In keeping with this fine tradition, A4M trained doctor and former clinical director of Revolution Medical Centers, Dr. Jesse Haggard, will surrender to federal agents in Florida on Friday, October 2, 2009 to face steroid distribution charges in Alabama. He has been a fugitive from the United States government since he learned of his impending charges, and has since lived in Costa Rica.
